At the Waterfront with La Lune Collection

When breezes are soft and skies are fair,

I steal an hour from study and care,

And hide me away to the woodland scene,

Where wanders the stream with waters of green.

~ William Cullen Bryant, “Green River” in Poems of Nature

It’s true that La Lune Collection furniture is beautiful wherever it finds itself – bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, patios, and decks, to name a few such places – but as William Cullen Bryant expresses in his poem “Green River”,  there’s really nothing quite like experiencing the sights and sounds of a stream or river while relaxing in a La Lune chair. Just consider the examples below and we think you’ll agree!

Spotlight on a Rustic Canopy Bed

No self-respecting parent would admit to having a favorite child – and so it is with us at La Lune Collection. While we love all of our beautiful rustic bed “children” equally, there does seem to be a clear fan favorite in the collection – namely, Canopy Bed #4276-#4282.

An unquestionable masterpiece, the graceful, free-form lines of natural branches create the dramatic design feature of Canopy Bed #4278. Strikingly beautiful, it will most surely draw compliments from all who see or sleep in it.La Lune Collection Canopy Bed 4278

Drawing on Canopy Bed #4280 in Taupe finish as this installation’s centerpiece, Minneapolis-based interior designer Billy Beson has created a magnificent monochromatic ski resort bedroom in Beaver Creek, CO. Truly gorgeous!

The talented interior designers at Design Associates and Locati Architects, both located in Bozeman, MT, are collaboratively responsible for this spectacular bedroom – featuring Canopy Bed #4280 in Sandstone finish – which overlooks a soaring mountain range. Clearly, this must be where the term “room with a view” received its inspiration!

If we had a favorite photo of the beautiful Canopy Bed #4278 it just might be this one, in Antique White finish, with La Lune’s own Little Red Riding Hood. This particular Little Red happens to be none other than Cristina, the then-9 year old daughter of La Lune founders Mario and Cathy Costantini, photographed when she was in the 3rd grade. And the “big, bad wolf” was an actual pet wolf named Sheba, who lived down the street from the La Lune Collection factory.  (Read the related  blog article to get the full story behind this photo shoot.)

We’re Seeing Red at La Lune Collection!

It was iconic designer Bill Blass who coined the phrase “When in doubt – wear red.”

At La Lune Collection, we’re pretty sure Mr. Blass was on to something – without doubt red is a strong and confident color, and best of all, nearly every piece of La Lune Collection furniture looks categorically stunning in red.  It was also Bill Blass who said “Red is the ultimate cure for sadness” – and we think that sounds like reason enough to consider bringing one or more shades of “La Lune Red” into the home – take a look and see if you agree!

Upholstered Beds by La Lune – Guaranteed to Bring Sweet Dreams!

The perfect bedroom is more than just a place to rest, and there aren’t many things that generate a desired sense of tranquility like the elegant comfort of an upholstered bed. The feel of fabric on a headboard is soft and cozy – and also solves the problem of trying to position pillows in “just the right way” for reading and propping oneself up.

Another benefit of an upholstered bed is that it allows one to express his or her own individual style through the selection of fabrics and leathers. By choosing different colors, patterns, or textures, the same upholstered bed can go from sophisticated to playful, from masculine to “girly” – the design possibilities are truly unlimited.

La Lune Collection boasts a beautiful selection of upholstered beds and headboards, all available in La Lune’s ten (10) attractive and durable fabrics – or, if preferred, customer’s own fabric or leather may be sent to our factory for application. In either case, La Lune Collection’s master upholsterers carefully create an upholstered bed or headboard that is certain to bring sweet dreams for many nights, years, and generations to come!Rustic Bed #4243 by La Lune Collection

Finally, it’s June. Let the festivities begin at La Lune Collection!

There’s just no way around it – winters in the Midwest are a long, brutal business.  So, when June finally does arrive, the entire state of Wisconsin breathes a collective sigh of gladness.  June has an extra special place in our hearts at Lune Collection, as this is when we host several events at our factory to benefit Milwaukee area nonprofit organizations. Two of the more memorable of these parties – which continue to take place at La Lune Collection year after year – are Mad Hot Celebration and Pasta & Puccini.

Mad Hot Celebration

Mad Hot Celebration, which will be held this year on Friday, June 13th, benefits the Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap program of Milwaukee dance company, Danceworks. This educational dance program engages greater Milwaukee area schoolchildren from 50 public and private schools in ballroom dancing and tap dancing, teaching them life skills, increasing their physical activity, and introducing them to the pure joy of dance.

The program culminates in May at the annual dance competition – with over 2,500 children participating – at Milwaukee’s BMO Harris Center. The competition winners then perform every June at Mad Hot Celebration to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience! La Lune co-owner, Mario Costantini, is the founder of the 8 year old Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap program, and is a proud board member of Danceworks.

 Pasta & Puccini

On Saturday, June 14th, the Florentine Opera Company will present its 4th annual Pasta & Puccini evening in the beautiful La Lune Collection courtyard.  For this perennial sell-out, a long table is set up in between the factory and office/showroom buildings at La Lune, and guests are treated to a delicious Italian meal served al fresco under a ceiling of sparkling Italian lights.  Add a selection of beautiful Puccini arias performed by the extremely talented Florentine Opera artists, and top off the evening with an unparalleled sing-along of old Italian favorites – molto magnifico!

Florentine Opera Pasta & Puccini at La Lune CollectionAll proceeds from this magical evening support Florentine Opera’s many – and diverse – programs. Founded in 1933, the Florentine Opera Company is the 6th oldest opera company in the nation, and has garnered 3 Grammy awards in recent years! La Lune co-founder, Cathy Costantini, is a proud board member of the company.

Rock On! Making a Design Statement with Rustic Rocking Chairs.

Well, who doesn’t love a rocking chair?  While the earliest rocking chairs can trace their origins to North America and England in the early 18th century, today there is truly a rocking chair style for everyone. Not many furniture pieces can create as much of a sense of total relaxation as rocking chairs do, and the added bonus of rustic rockers is that they make a strong design statement, all the while soothing frazzled nerves. We’ve gathered together several examples of beautiful rooms that feature rustic rocking chairs in a dramatic, scene-stealing way – take a look!

La Lune Porch Style: The Rustic Retreat

Whenever we come across an image of a beautiful patio or porch – or any space for that matter – showcasing La Lune Collection furniture we can’t wait to share it with the world!  And so, we are thrilled to reveal here a breathtaking porch overlooking the North Carolina mountain range that recently came to our attention.

This amazing installation, named the Mountain Air Family Lodge, comes to us courtesy of the very talented Kathryn Long, ASID in Asheville, NC and Platt Architecture, PA, in Brevard, NC.

Perched beside a lush, verdant mountain vista, this porch is a perfect place for family gatherings. It’s easy to imagine starting the day with breakfast at this table, seated on the charming La Lune Collection chairs. Designer Kathryn chose the creamy, warm “Navajo” premium finish for these Side Chairs #1154, and opted for removable seat cushions, for easy maintenance, in a cheery red plaid fabric.

These particular Rocking Chairs #1190 feature a “Wheat” premium finish on peeled bark, which along with the removable seat cushions makes them ideal for use completely outdoors.

La Lune Writes… National Haiku Day is on April 17th

We love holidays at La Lune Collection – the anticipation, the preparation, the celebration – but we admit to having a special fondness for the quirky, offbeat holidays.

Enter National Haiku Day! This special day is celebrated on April 17th, and according to the Haiku Foundation it was “registered by Sari Grandstaff in 2007 and implemented as a project of The Haiku Foundation since 2012, and occurs in the heart of the United States’ celebration of National Poetry Month.” In the spirit of the day, La Lune Collection enthusiastically offers up three of our own compositions.

The beautiful Canopy Bed #4280 is a true La Lune fan favorite, repeatedly “tagged”, “shared”, “pinned” and “commented on” in social media platforms including Pinterest, Facebook, and Houzz. Surely it deserves its own Haiku tribute!

It comes as no surprise, then, that he chooses La Lune Collection furniture to grace his homes, including this delightful porch at his Double RL Ranch in Colorado.  Pictured here are rustic Club Chairs #1006, Sofa #1002, and Porch Swing #1091.

A La Lune Collection Tribute to “Trees”

“I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree” – so go the words penned by Joyce Kilmer in 1913 in his legendary work, “Trees”.

At La Lune Collection we, too, are great admirers of the tree, marveling at its beauty, dignity and strength.  Several of our rustic furniture designs pay special tribute to their source, the tree, by actually echoing and embodying it. We are pleased and proud to share some of those designs here.

Can a hall tree really be a tree? The answer is that it can be, if it’s from La Lune Collection!  A beautiful way to bring a touch of nature indoors, this design is as elegant as it is functional.

Rustic Dining Table #3089

A round table makes conversation easy for everyone seated, and this round rustic dining table is a La Lune favorite.  Its inspired rustic design is created by our master craftsmen and features a delicate, precise branch “apron”, and a striking and graceful organic base of free-form branches.

Rustic Bed #4304

A design masterpiece – graceful, freeform lines of natural branches are the distinctive design feature on this rustic bed’s headboard and footboard. Strikingly beautiful, it will most surely draw compliments and comments from all who see or sleep in it!

A tribute to “Trees” and its
author, Joyce Kilmer, would not be complete without enjoying the poem in its
entirety, and so we end here with a “reading” of it.

Joyce Kilmer

Joyce Kilmer

~ Joyce Kilmer, 1913

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree
