Extra, Extra, REED All About It! La Lune Collection Introduces New Designs of Handwoven Reed

We’re always excited to introduce “newcomers” to our collection, and our latest new additions have us particularly enthusiastic. Four beautiful seating designs, fashioned by our La Lune Collection furniture artisans of hand-woven reeds, project a sophisticated rustic vibe that complements many interior design aesthetics, from traditional to contemporary to (naturally) rustic.

But don’t be fooled into thinking of any of these beauties as “just another pretty face” – the art of weaving reeds is a serious skill that’s been passed down from generations, initially developed as basket weaving. As far back as ancient Egypt, in fact, delicately woven rush or reed furniture was buried with pharaohs – Tutankhamen himself (ca. 1341-1323 BC) was buried with several reed pieces including a chair seat, a headboard, and a stool! Inspired by this Egyptian woven furniture the ancient Romans adopted the furniture technique and subsequently spread the style across their vast empire.

Today, our master craftsmen have acquired the knowledge and expertise to create reed pieces that are just as strong and durable as they are beautiful. We think Confucius had it right when he mused that “the reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in the storm”!

La Lune Collection – Furniture so Remarkable it’s in an Art Museum

We love receiving reviews from our cherished clients at La Lune – and boy, do we get a lot of them.  Our Houzz site alone boasts over 70 such tributes! One of our favorite reviews was written by a gratified customer in NYC:

“I think La Lune’s pedestal base made of poplar branches helped us create the most beautiful glass-top table this country has ever seen; the pieces belong in a modern art museum …. they are works of art. I even called La Lune to see if the artisan signed his name, but was told that there is a brass “La Lune” tag on the underside. These are pieces I expect to be in my family for generations.

I visualized the end result without ever seeing the completed objects until they arrived. La Lune convinced me of the beauty of the vision and I trusted them to realize it; it was better than I imagined.”

At the time the idea of La Lune in an art museum was an interesting one – at best – to us.  And now, several years later, that interesting thought has become reality – this month La Lune Collection is proud to be featured in the new exhibit “Handmade for Home, the Craft of Contemporary Design” at the Museum of Wisconsin Art. It’s a truly spectacular museum, an intriguing exhibit, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the honor!

La Lune Collection Bunk Rooms are Popping Up Everywhere!

Bunk beds have long been “hot items” at La Lune Collection, and in recent years some pretty amazing bunk room installations – created by our wonderful interior design and architect clients and featuring La Lune Collection Bunk Beds – have been popping up everywhere. And it’s really no wonder – the benefits of bunk rooms are numerous.  Families look to bunk beds to optimize space and add storage, and, they’re not just for kids anymore. Visiting adult children, men on a “guys’ weekend”, extended family guests – and more – all make bunk rooms a welcome staple in vacation and second homes.

To demonstrate our point we’ve gathered together a group of our favorite bunk rooms by some of our favorite interior designers, several of which grace the covers of magazines!

At La Lune Collection it All Begins With a Drawing (video)

At La Lune Collection we like to do everything by hand – “old school” – and creating beautiful new furniture designs is no different. It all begins with a drawing, just as it did with our newest addition, the Hanging Daybed #4519.

Watch this short video and see how La Lune Collection artist Jen takes this beautiful new piece from idea to reality!

Introducing Pantone’s Color of the Year: GREENERY

The color gurus at Pantone have done it again – this time, with their inspired pick for 2017 Color of the Year – and present us with GREENERY!

According to Pantone, Greenery is “a refreshing and vitalizing shade…symbolic of new beginnings. Greenery is nature’s neutral.” Further, Pantone Color Institute’s vice president Laurie Pressman tells us that Greenery “is about unity and community—connecting to oneself and others and a higher purpose, Nature.”

At La Lune Collection, we’re all in favor of connecting with nature – and so, it is with great enthusiasm that we show off below a few La Lune beauties in their very own “greenery finery”.
